Tantalum Niobium and Its Alloys
Both the tantalum metal and niobium metal are refractory metals with excellent ductility and corrosion resistance. If they contain impurities, they will become hard and brittle. Since the outer electronic structures of tantalum and niobium atoms are the same, and their atomic and ionic radii are similar, the chemical properties of niobium and tantalum are very similar, but there are also certain differences. Generally, the chemical activity of niobium is greater than that of tantalum, and niobium easily reacts with some gases. Niobium is more active than tantalum, but tantalum has stronger metallicity.
