Tungsten rhenium alloys are solid solution strengthening alloys composed of tungsten (as substrate) and rhenium. In alloys, the common rhenium content (mass fraction, %) is 3, 5, 10, 25, and 26. It contains a low-content W-Re alloy (Re ≤ 5%) and a high-content alloy (Re ≥ 15%).

Tungsten rhenium alloys have better mechanical properties and ductility than pure tungsten, with higher resistivity. Therefore, they are easier to weld and process.

Tungsten rhenium alloys have a range of excellent material properties, such as high melting point, high strength, good hardness, high plasticity, high recrystallization temperature, high resistivity, high thermopower, low vapor pressure, low electron work function, and low ductile-brittle transition temperature. Major fabrication products made of tungsten rhenium alloys include wires, rods, sheets and foils. Wires are the most important and are mainly used in high-temperature structural materials.

Tungsten rhenium alloys are widely used in electronics, thermal control, modern nuclear technology, astronavigation technology, temperature measurement, instruments and apparatus, nuclear medicine, nuclear power, and other cutting-edge scientific fields.
